Eduardo J.Blanco
Eduardo J.Blanco was the
provincial engineer of Negros Oriental during the Outbreak of World War II,was
born in Dumaguete City coming from a typical Dumaguetiño Spanish /Chinese
Mestizo familia. Building Government Facilities and improvement of
infrastructure projects, he might have anticipated the importance of the
Dumaguete Airport to Japanese Military Operations because he and assistant
provincial engineer Jovenal Villanueva -Somoza volunteered to stay on working
on the airfield, thus gaining familiarity with installation.
He organized the
underground intelligence resistance in Dumaguete they had twenty members. At
the height of the struggle, they drew a ground plan of the airport which was
secretly converged to the guerrilla headquarters, and the American forces in Australia. Subsequent
American attracts on the airfield were right on target, Suspicion again Blanco
and his men. On September 12,1944,they were arrested and interrogated by the
Japanese in "Davao Cottage" .Tortured in Channon Hall of Silliman
University. After weeks of detention, they were Killed placed in weighted sacks
and thrown into the sea near Piapi Beach.
