Josefina Villacampa-Rubio-Larena, was the legal wife of Don Demetrio Larena y Sandes and one of the first Filipina friend of Laura Crooke-Hibbard, the wife of Dr. David Sutherland-Hibbard, the founding missionary of Silliman University.Rubio- Larena donated her property to erect the U.C.C.P. Bais Church, one of the first Protestant churches outside Dumaguete.   Josefina Villacampa-Rubio played an essential role during the historic march of General Diego de la Viña from Hacienda Bagawines in Vallehermoso down to Dumaguete in November 1898. As de la Viña’s army ( Ejercito Filipino ) made its way south through the coastal towns of Oriental Negros, women organized crucial logistical and humanitarian support for the marching forces.
