Josefina Villacampa Rubio -Larena

Josefina Villacampa-Rubio-Larena, was the legal wife of Don Demetrio Larena y Sandes and one of the first Filipina friend of Laura Crooke-Hibbard, the wife of Dr. David Sutherland-Hibbard, the founding missionary of Silliman University.Rubio- Larena donated her property to erect the U.C.C.P. Bais Church, one of the first Protestant churches outside Dumaguete.

 

Josefina Villacampa-Rubio played an essential role during the historic march of General Diego de la Viña from Hacienda Bagawines in Vallehermoso down to Dumaguete in November 1898.

As de la Viña’s army (Ejercito Filipino) made its way south through the coastal towns of Oriental Negros, women organized crucial logistical and humanitarian support for the marching forces. Josefina Villacampa-Rubio stood out as a key organizer, serving as the fiscal of the group of women supporting the Negros Revolution.

  Humanitarian Aid: She and her fellow women patriot-volunteers set up relief points along the route, providing medical care to wounded revolutionaries, as well as food, fresh water, and shelter to soldiers who were exhausted and hungry from the long march.

  Historical Recognition: Because of her dedication to the revolutionary cause and her active leadership among the women of Bais, local historical accounts affectionately remember her as the "Daughter of the Negros Revolution" (Hija de la Revolucion).

Teofisto Jamora Guingona Sr

Teofisto Jamora Guingona Sr. (born  Teofisto Guingona y Jamora ; September 20, 1883 – April 11, 1963) was father of former Vice President  Teofisto Guingona Jr.  and the grandfather of former senator  TG Guingona . He was born in Guimaras, Iloilo, on September 20, 1883. He is the son of Don Vicente Guingona and Doña Francisca Jamora. Guingona joined the insurgent army when the revolution against Spain broke out. He became the first Municipal Treasurer of Nabalas from 1899 to 1901. He then became Municipal President from 1901 to 1902. He was elected Representative from the second district of Negros Oriental in 1909 and was re-elected to the same post in 1912. Guingona then resigned from the Legislature and served as Governor of Agusan from 1913 to 1917; the province is now divided as  Agusan del Norte  and  del Sur . Don Diego R. de la Viña The town was the official residence of the revolutionary leader and hero of Negros Oriental, Don Diego de la Viña y de la Rosa. Don Diego de la Viña shaped the beginnings of the municipality, “Vallehermoso” when he saw the beautiful valley. In 1881, Don Diego de la Viña came from Negros Occidental in search of territories to conquer. The land he saw a top the mountains was the wilderness called Bagawines. Bukidnons, known to be unfriendly aboriginals inhabited the area. However, de la Viña sought the tribal chief, named Ka Saniko and truck barter. For lands on coastal Bagawines, de la Viña offered wondrous articles from Iloilo, such as fine canes, well-crafted bolos and colorful patadyongs. Ka Saniko then moved further to Pinokawan. De la Viña with a number of Bukidnons cleared the land and constructed his residence, a casa tribunal and a chapel.
