Family History of Carmen Rosario Limbaga Abilla
HISTORY Highlights
Spanish and Chinese blood genes
Fittingly for this day, November 3, we mark the birth anniversary of the golden girl, Chiqui, with tracing her ancestry. A good friend of ours, Maria Carmen Rosario Limbaga Abilla, is fascinated that she has some "mix" in her genes.
She is excited that Spanish and Chinese blood are running in her veins. She takes pride in being a former Majorette Head Cheerleader of the East Negros Institute of Tanjay (Negros Oriental) in 1989 – 1990.
To the wonder of her ways, service to God runs in her blood. Known to her family and friends, Carmen does prison ministry with the Philippine Jesuit Prison Service at the New Bilibid Prisons in Muntinlupa City. Every Thursday in those facilities, she holds bible meetings with persons deprived of liberty, together with Word Community Church, a Christian group led by Manny Pangilinan.
Her great grandfather, Quiterio Abilla, was born in Bais in 1872. He was the third child of the legitimate marriage of Brigido Abilla and Rosa Gonzales. The fourth child named Luisa was born on 19 August 1873. She was baptized five days after on 24 August by Fr. Benigno Jimenez, the first parish priest of Bais.
The fifth and youngest child of their marriage was named Lorenzo, born at nine o'clock in the morning on 10 August 1877 and baptized the following day on 11 August. His paternal grandparents were Leon Abilla and Placida Llera of Bais while both of his maternal grandparents were migrants from China.
On 22 June 1898, Quiterio Abilla married the "Española Filipina" Brigida Gomez, a widow at age 25. Brigida’s parents were the "Español Peninsular" Bruno Gomez and the "mestiza Española" Ramona Gonzalez.
The eldest child of Quiterio and Brigida was named Rafael Gomez Abilla who was born on 25 November 1898. He was married to Rosario Villanueva on 8 October 1922. Their child born on 25 November 1935 was likewise named Rafael Gregorio Villanueva Abilla.
Married to Carmencita Cabello Limbaga on 21 December 1965 at the Manila Cathedral, Rafael Gregorio had three children, with Maria Carmen Rosario Limbaga Abilla as the youngest.
Lest we forget, her maternal grandfather was Baldomero Limbaga, mayor of Tanjay in 1940-1942; 1946-1947; 1947-1951. The Abilla clan in Bais continues to inspire Catholics with their true devotion to the Madre Dolorosa, Mother of God, during the Holy Week activities in Bais city.
